King Charles III to Take Delivery of Sustainable Aviation Fuel AW139 Helicopters

The Royal Household will take delivery of two new Agusta Wetland AW139 helicopters that run on 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). True to the ‘green’ credentials of King Charles III, the Household is keen to do its bit. Sir Michael Stevens, keeper of the privy purse, said they were “small steps, but part of a much wider plan to make a significant impact on our carbon emissions in the years ahead.”

The Helicopter
The AW139 helicopters are believed to cost approximately £8.5million each and will be delivered by the end of the year. They will replace the ageing Sikorsky S-76s which have been in service over 15 years.

A market leader in its class, the AW139 surpasses all other intermediate helicopters in capability, speed and ride quality. Its large and unobstructed cabin is capable of comfortably carrying up to 10 passengers and is easily accessible via an automatically deployed footstep. It also offers ample room for accessories, including telecommunications, entertainment systems, dedicated workspace, refreshment area and stowage.

Outstanding Technology and Safety
Designed to exceed the most rigorous regulatory standards, the AW139 features state-of-the-art avionics and mission systems to minimise pilot workload and optimise operational efficiency. The helicopter is exceptionally comfortable due to incredibly low noise and vibration levels.

Exceptional Cabin Flexibility
Passengers can enjoy a relaxing flight thanks to the largest cabin in its class, finished in the finest interior trims. The wide hinged doors with a single electrically retractable step ensure easy access for all passengers, while the baggage compartment provides plenty of room for luggage.
