From October 2025, the European Union will begin rolling out its long-awaited Entry/Exit System (EES).
The new system is designed to modernise border controls across the Schengen area (which includes most EU nations plus Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland, but excludes Ireland). Instead of relying on manual passport stamping, the EES will:
- Record the entry and exit dates of all non-EU visitors.
- Collect biometric data such as fingerprints and facial images.
- Strengthen security and streamline monitoring of travellers.
For UK citizens, this means that every trip into or out of Europe will involve registering your details within this new digital system. While the goal is to make travel safer and more efficient, the initial transition period may bring delays at busy airports, train stations, and ferry terminals.
The Independent Instagram reel explains.
The rollout begins in October 2025 and is expected to be fully operational by April 2026.
At Sentinel Aviation, we want our clients and community to be fully aware of these upcoming changes when planning travel. Even for private jet passengers, the new rules apply — so it’s worth preparing now to ensure a smooth experience later this year.
