Upgraded Gulfstream G700 Business Jet Breaks Two Records in One Day
Gulfstream’s G700 is one of the ‘go-to’ manufacturers when it comes to business jets, and is the largest and fastest business jet that the company offers. The G700 surpassed the popular G650ER after it was introduced earlier this year. The aircraft, with a price tag starting at $75 million  was first announced in October 2019 at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) annual convention and has become Gulfstream’s flagship aircraft since its introduction.

Two Transoceanic Records in a Single Day
The jet took off from Savannah, Georgia, and landed in Doha, Qatar, 13 hours and 16 minutes later. It covered the 7,700-mile (6,711 nautical miles, to be exact) distance flying at Mach 0.88 – or 675 mph.

The G700 then flew from Doha to Paris. The 3,400-mile journey (2,953 nautical miles) took 6 hours and 15 minutes, and the jet was able to fly even faster, traveling at Mach 0.90 – or 690 mph.
Gulfstream G700 Facts
  • Current range: 7,750 nautical miles (8,920 miles)
  • Capacity: 19 passengers
  • Length: 109 feet ten inches
  • Height: 25 feet five inches
  • Wingspan: 103 feet
  • Maximum speed: Mach 0.935 (717 miles per hour)
  • Cruise speed: Mach 0.85 (630 miles per hour)
  • Flight ceiling: 51,000 feet
The G700 brings with it new Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines, more efficient than the BR725 powerplants on its sister G650. It also adds more range, originally pegged at 7,500 NM but upgraded to 7,750 NM during flight testing – significantly improved over the 7,000 NM of the G650. Cabin altitude is also lower than the G650, making passengers feel as if they’re at only 2,840 feet when flying at 41,000 feet. During testing, its top speed was also upgraded to Mach 0.935, making it the fastest Gulfstream business jet.
Inside, the cabin has received a full re-design. There are fewer angles and smoother curves to make it feel even more spacious, and there’s a grand suite in the rear, which is essentially the main bedroom. The windows have been slightly redesigned and there’s circadian lighting to reduce jet lag. It is longer by around 10 feet (3 metres), allowing for up to five separate living areas. Overall, it delivers a cabin volume of 2,603 cu ft (73.7 m3), around 450 cu ft larger than the G650.
On 29th March, the Gulfstream G700 received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification, and more recently the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification, paving the way for customer deliveries of the most spacious aircraft in business aviation.
