As Private Jet Sales Slow, Charter Takes Flight: Why Flexibility Wins in 2025

A recent CNBC article has highlighted a cooling in the private jet market, with aircraft manufacturers and brokers reporting a notable slowdown in sales. New tariffs, economic uncertainty, and geopolitical tensions — including the potential policy shifts tied to a second Trump presidency — have left many would-be jet buyers hesitant to commit.

Customer interest in buying business jets has fallen by 49% since March, according to the survey, which was conducted from April 9 to 15 and had 65 respondents.

The Barclays Business Jet Indicator survey, published last week, uses five metrics, including 12-month outlook and pricing, to assess the state of the market. All but one metric (inventory levels) declined from mid-March to mid-April. As a result, the composite score fell from 52 to 40.

But while aircraft purchases may be dipping, demand for flexible, on-demand private travel is holding steady — and in many cases, growing. At Sentinel Aviation, we believe this shift presents a powerful opportunity for clients who want the luxury and convenience of private aviation without the long-term risk and capital outlay of ownership.

Why Chartering Makes Sense Right Now
  • No Asset Exposure: In a market marked by tariff threats and policy changes, charter clients avoid ownership risk and depreciation.
  • Maximum Flexibility: Choose the right aircraft for each journey — from light jets to long-range models — without being locked into one fleet.
  • Global Access: With a charter model, you’re not limited to a single base or aircraft. You fly where you want, when you want.
  • On-Demand Availability: Whether for business or leisure, our team can source the perfect aircraft with minimal notice and personalised service.
Turbulence in the Sales Market Doesn’t Ground Private Travel

Industry insiders have cited delays in aircraft orders, caution around capital expenditures, and political uncertainty as key reasons behind the dip in new aircraft sales. However, this hasn’t deterred high-net-worth individuals and businesses from flying privately — they’re simply choosing flexibility over ownership.
